MALABOMBA! was a monthly international music event created and curated by Jason Savvy and me (working under the name DJ Cat Hair). For seven years, we put on events featuring live and recorded music from all over the world. In the years since our last event, we’ve used our Facebook presence as an occasional international music news voice, letting our followers know about our latest musical discoveries. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, I started a weekly online music listening gathering using Zoom. For the first several gatherings, I used social media to announce the gatherings and invite friends and acquaintances to join. I’ve included a couple of my early Facebook announcements in the link above. Please note: the first post here is intended to be darkly funny, and while I feel that a library’s social media presence can certainly use humor in communicating with the public, I would never go this macabre.
